Selfish Rich NIMBYs at it again!!
Saw this story in the Orange County Register about south county cities that aren't too happy about the proposed tunnel under the Cleveland National Forest. Seems those pesky middle class Inland Empire people might actually want to come to the beach on the weekend.
"Residents told us that they heard that people in Riverside were getting presentations that they could be in Laguna Beach in 20 minutes," Laguna Beach Mayor Elizabeth Pearson-Schneider said.
"That's just what we need, another 100,000 people here in the summer. We can't move. Our quality of life is already affected."
The mayor must be getting lessons from her co-horts in South Pasadena.
Before she gets too self-righteous, she has to realize that Orange County isn't innocent in this traffic mess. Thousands of OC residents clog the Inland Empire freeways every Friday on their way to Vegas. I bet those Inland Empire people aren't too happy about that.
The last thing they need is to be sitting in traffic on the 91 and 15, sucking down the fumes of a Mercedes or Lexus SUV with a Surfrider bumper sticker and Laguna Beach license plate frame.

Can't you leave people alone? You are a Hitler. Always wanting to bulldoze others' property for your silly freeways. Just double deck the damn thing and be done with it. Jesus, you just have to get your grubby chunky fingers all over things. Why don't you just go to your desert highway and think about what a loser you are in life? What did you amount to anyway? Have you created anything of value? Have you just annoyed people until they wanted to kick your ass?

Don - There's another issue at work here. First of all, I live and work in Riverside, and have been a planner for the county for over 20 years. The creation of a new route to South OC will only serve to perpetuate the "Jobs in OC, Homes in Rivco" mentality that is driving this insane commuting mentality. What needs to be done is for the businesses that rely heavily on workers from the IE to open either satellite offices here, or allow for telecommuting. In this day, there is no reason for everyone to show up to the office each and every day.
It's not so much the "Selfish rich NIMBYs" that are driving this as it is the super-rich business owners who insist on having their offices near the beach at the expense of having their labor pool commute in from the IE because they can't afford the outrageous housing prices in OC.
Therefore, the tunnel under the Santa Ana Mountains, or for that matter, any other improvement, is stupid and will only serve the greedy developers, almost all of whom are based in LA and Orange Counties. I know - I've worked with them!
